How to Apply to be on National Council

Are you looking for an opportunity to assume a leadership position on the national level that reflects your current interest in the Honor Societies? If so, positions on the NHS & NJHS National Council may be what you’re looking for.

Qualifications
--Members of the NHS & NJHS National Council must be advisers or principals currently employed in a middle level or high school (including K-12, K-8, etc.)

--The school must currently maintain an active chapter of NHS or NJHS and do so throughout the council member’s two- or three-year term of office

--Council members must be able to attend the National Council meeting held on a weekend in the spring (March or April) of each year

--Council members should have experience in Honor Society activities in their school and in their state association (where available).

--Advisers must have at least three (3) years experience as a chapter adviser.

--Principals must also be members of NASSP.

For the 2009-2010 school year, the following positions will be filled

  • Region 1: Principal*
  • Region 2: Principal
  • Region 3: Adviser
  • Region 4: Adviser (2-year term)
  • Region 5: Adviser (2-year term)
  • Region 6: Principal (2-year term)
  • Region 7: Adviser
  • At-Large Principal #1 (any region, 2-year term)
  • NJHS/Middle Level Adviser (any region)
  • *Principal members on the council can be middle level or high school principals.

    We are currently working to fill these vacancies during the spring of 2009 to facilitate approval and notification with ample time for planning for the spring 2010 meeting. All applications must be completed and submitted by March 23, 2009. Applications can be submitted at any time prior to this deadline by mail, fax, or email. New members of the council will begin their term upon approval by the NASSP Board of Directors and those selected will serve through June 30, 2011 or 2012 depending on whether the term is identified as 2 years or 3 years in length.
