Plano High School Wins 2006 NHS Scholars' Bowl®
Plano Senior High School Takes Top Honors
Orlando, FL – After two days of intense competition, Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas has been named the National Honor Society’s 2006 Scholars’ Bowl® champion. Led by adviser Kevin Dunagan, Plano competed in the 5th Annual Scholars’ Bowl competition at the NHS National Conference in sunny Orlando, Florida on Saturday, November 4th.
The competition, sponsored by Pearson Prentice Hall, consisted of two parts—individual and team. First, each member of each team undertook an extensive written exam, which covered four subject categories: English, Math, Science and Social Studies—one person per subject category.
Sixteen, teams from across the nation participated in the competition, each going head to head in three rounds of short-answer questions culminating in the championship round late Saturday afternoon. "The teams that competed in this year’s NHS Scholars’ Bowl were truly amazing," said Rocco Marano, director, NHS. "The advisers of all of the teams should be commended for giving them such excellent direction. Congratulations to Plano Senior High for really going the distance. Their hard work and preparation was evident."
"With this caliber of young adults coming up, I know my retirement is in good hands," said Steve Olson, Florida district manager for Pearson Prentice-Hall. "They were very knowledgeable and they put on a great performance."
Each member of the winning team receives a trophy, medal and one-hundred dollar cash prize. The team adviser receives a free registration to next year’s national conference.
