National Conference Report 2007
While there may have been a shortage of water this year in northern Georgia, there was no shortage of Honor Society students in Atlanta this November. For 700 Honor Society students and advisers from all over the country, the city now brings to mind the 2007 NHS &NJHS National Conference held there November 9-11 at the Sheraton Downtown Hotel.
The theme for the national conference was, "A Celebration of Excellence." The weekend-long conference was full of celebrations both large and small, and participants were inspired by the excellent speakers, the quality of the workshops and networking sessions, and each other.
For those who haven’t attended a national conference, the event begins on Friday with registration and a community service project and ends with a closing general session on Sunday morning. Between these two events can be found one exciting experience after another. Within the conference is a special academic competition, the NHS Scholars’ Bowl® , the ultimate academic challenge.
This year's conference, the 15th national conference, was attended by NHS and NJHS chapters from 33 states and several overseas locations. Nearly one-fifth of the participants came from NJHS chapters, the largest middle level delegation of all the national conferences. Chapters came from large and small, public and nonpublic schools; from urban, rural, and suburban locations from coast to coast—an experience in diversity for all. Here are some of the highlights from the 2007 meeting.
