NHS Scholarship Fund: Investing in Student Leaders

Donate Now

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) seeks to honor the service and leadership of senior NHS chapter members through a scholarship program that meets their current needs. We can look to our national leaders in support of this effort.

In President Obama’s inauguration speech, he cited a commitment for all Americans to attend at least one year of job training or higher education to better equip our workforce for the 21st century economy. He also cited a focused effort on promoting service as a way of life for all Americans. These qualities align with the pillars of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

Here’s how you can help!

For individuals, please support our current and future leaders so they can obtain the education they need for long-term success. Whatever your affiliation with NHS, you understand the value it brings to students and communities throughout the nation and the world. Please do your part to support the NHS Scholarship Fund and contribute today.

For organizations or companies committed to social responsibility, this presents an investment in the future global workforce. These NHS seniors have already demonstrated leadership qualities and now should be given a chance to fulfill their destinies. Please act now to secure the future of these talented students, our nation, and the world.

Background:
More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since NASSP founded it in 1921.

In 1946, NHS established a national scholarship program. Since that time, NHS has awarded more than 15,500 scholarships totaling more than $11.6 million dollars. The purpose of the scholarship program is to provide high school seniors who are members of NHS with the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to defray the rising costs of college. Now, as the costs of higher education continue to increase at 6-7% each year, college access is becoming a critical issue for all students.

Goals:
To respond to this situation, NASSP is committed to expanding the NHS scholarship program by:

  • Creating a new and sustainable revenue stream to enhance the $200,000 annual commitment from NASSP
  • Doubling the number of base awards from 150 to 300
  • Doubling the amount of the base award from $1,000 to $2,000
  • Encouraging NHS chapters to participate in and support the scholarship fund
