NHS Scholarship Program

NASSP, the parent organization of the National Honor Society, has awarded the NHS Scholarships since 1946, providing more than $10 million in scholarships to outstanding NHS members. Now in its 66th year, the program provides $200,000 annually in scholarship awards. 2 state finalists are selected from each state to receive $1,000 scholarships. From the state finalists, a state winner is selected to receive an additional $500. Among the state winners, 9 regional winners are chosen to receive an additional $1500 for a total of $3,000. The national winner receives a scholarship totaling $13,000.

Eligibility
Chapters: Only active chapters may nominate members for the scholarship. Please visit our search for active chapters section to verify that your school is affiliated for the 2011-12 school year.
If your school does not appear in the search, please visit the Membership Renewal section for information regarding adviser changes and renewals. You may also contact the membership department (membership@nhs.us or 800-253-7746, option 4) to check chapter status.
Students: The National Honor Society Scholarship program is a nomination process. Students cannot apply directly to NHS and nomination forms cannot be sent to students or parents by the national office. Nomination procedures must be obtained through the high school NHS Chapter Adviser.
Only currently affiliated NHS Chapters may participate in the program. Members [students] who are seniors in good standing are eligible to be nominated by their chapters to compete in the NHS Scholarship Program. The phrase, "seniors in good standing" is generally taken to mean 12th graders who are continuing to meet the standards by which they were selected and who are up-to-date on their chapter obligations.
Chapters may nominate between two to five seniors from their chapter to compete. The number of nominees per chapter is based on graduating class size. Small schools (1-100) may nominate two seniors; medium schools (101-250) may nominate three seniors; large schools (251-400) may nominate four seniors; and very large schools (401+) may nominate five seniors.
