Honor Society Tips and Tools
Transferring Active Membership

New students may have been members of NHS or NJHS at their previous school. Per the NHS and NJHS Constitutions (Article VIII, Sections 4 and 6, respectively), active membership transfers from chapter to chapter. Your chapter bylaws should reflect this policy as well. Once inducted, members never have to go through selection or induction again, even if they transfer schools.

If former members who have moved contact you, please provide a letter of verification so they can transfer membership. A sample membership transfer letter is provided in the “Work with Members & Officers” section of the Adviser Resource Center. Log in here for NHS or NJHS. Email [email protected] with questions or unique circumstances.
