Since 1921, NHS has sought to elevate the pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character while providing programs and services that promote students’ development into exemplary role models. It is estimated that over 1 million students participate in NHS activities, and chapters can be found in all 50 states and around the world. This year marks the 100th anniversary of NHS. As NHS looks to the future and pushing the boundaries of student development to serve as a champion of growth and achievement, how is your chapter planning to help us mark this momentous occasion? We’ve put together a centennial celebration toolkit at www.nhs.us/100/toolkit to help you join the festivities.

Planning Resources

In this section, you’ll find a sample press release that you can use to announce the NHS centennial, as well as information about your school’s NHS chapter, to your community and local media. A sample newsletter blurb can be posted to your school’s newsletter or website to share how your school will celebrate. Use these resources to not only celebrate the 100-year anniversary of NHS, but also to highlight your own chapter’s history and accomplishments. Your chapter can also request a proclamation in support of the NHS centennial to your mayor’s office.

Social Media Assets

Use #NHS100 to join the digital conversation and share events your chapter, district, or school is hosting to celebrate how you uphold the pillars of NHS. Use one of the premade graphics, or get creative as you spread the word on social media!

Suggested Activities

This section links to our event planning checklist, which outlines considerations to take into account when planning a large school event, including setting a date, getting necessary approval, cleanup, sound and technology logistics, and day-of coordination. We also provide NHS trivia that you can use to quiz the members of your chapter.

NHS Impact

How far-reaching is the impact of NHS? Remember that NHS membership doesn’t stop when students graduate high school. Members are all part of a worldwide family of those who value the pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character—and uphold those pillars in all aspects of their lives. Take a look at our “NHS Impact” map and pin your chapter! —
