Make History at the National Student Council Conference

The 2021 National Student Council Conference will bring together student councils from around the nation to sharpen their leadership skills and build their peer networks. Students and advisers will celebrate the theme “Student Leaders Making History” on June 22–25, 2021, and will take part in a four-day virtual experience with captivating speakers, peer workshops, and lifelong leadership training. Are you ready to increase the impact of your student council? Learn more at www.NatStuCoConference.org.

Find Your Online Community

Advisers everywhere have been faced with new and unique challenges this year in addition to their regular duties teaching and managing student activities. The Adviser Online Community (http://community.nassp.org) is your way to connect with colleagues who are going through similar situations and offer your own advice and insight. Find out how other advisers are planning to navigate induction ceremonies and student elections, keeping student leaders engaged in virtual and hybrid environments, and planning projects in their schools and communities while keeping people safe.

Student Accounts

Student members in NHS, NJHS, and NatStuCo are encouraged to create their own student accounts in order to receive the most up-to-date information about member programs and activities delivered to their inboxes. Advisers will receive a daily notification email containing a list of each student and must verify accounts before students can access member-specific functions, such as the student store and program applications. Visit www.nhs.us/studentaccount, www.njhs.us/studentaccount, and www.NatStuCo.org/studentaccount to get started.

National Student Leadership Week (NSLW), April 18–24, is an opportunity to honor the achievements of student leaders in the face of unique challenges. This year’s theme, “Leadership Unlimited,” celebrates the boundless potential of students who have stepped up as leaders within their communities and shown that leadership has no limits. Student Leader Spotlight

In 2016, best friends Chase Hartman and Vance Tomasi founded “read.repeat.” and collected over 14,000 gently used books, donating them to students in need. Hartman was named a 2017 Prudential honoree for the state of Florida, and Tomasi was a distinguished finalist. Now, four years later, “read.repeat.” has collected and donated over 140,000 books and raised $58,000 to purchase high-interest books for kids. Check out their accomplishments, along with advice for other student leaders, on YouTube: https://youtu.be/7xfHM2qCUpM and visit their website at www.readrepeat.org.

End Child Hunger

The National Association of Secondary School Principals has teamed up with No Kid Hungry and the Student Leadership Advisory Committee in the National Initiative to address the pressing issue of childhood hunger. The National Initiative also seeks to provide meaningful opportunities for students and school leaders to engage in advocacy and service. It is estimated that 1 in 4 kids could face hunger this year as a result of COVID-19. Find out childhood hunger facts for your region and share informative social graphics at www.nassp.org/national-initiative.
