NHS Scholarship Opens Soon

Each year, NHS awards a total of $2 million to 600 extraordinary senior members who make a difference in their schools and communities through their commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, and character. With funds ranging from $3,200 to $25,000 for the National Winner, this scholarship could make a big difference in your students’ postsecondary aspirations. On October 1, the 2021–22 NHS Scholarship program will begin accepting online applications. Each applicant will need to have an active student account in order to complete the online application. Encourage your students to mark these dates in their calendars so they don’t forget:

  • October 1: NHS Scholarship open for applications
  • December 1: Student applications, adviser certifications, and recommendations due by 1:00 p.m. (ET)

Visit www.nhs.us/scholarship to learn more about the NHS Scholarship program, and encourage your students to get started. All senior NHS members in good standing are eligible to apply!

Celebrate Your Principal!

Your school’s principal works hard to create a positive culture of growth and ensure student success—and that hard work deserves recognition and thanks. Encourage your council or chapter members to celebrate their principal with National Principals Month activities this October! Whether they plan a schoolwide celebration, post on social media using #ThankAPrincipal, or send e-cards, National Principals Month is a great time to show gratitude. Visit www.principalsmonth.org for ideas.

Celebrating Councils of Excellence

NatStuCo’s National Council of Excellence (NCOE) program recognizes middle level and high school student councils that consistently provide exceptional leadership activities and service to their schools and communities. Your council may already meet the standards to earn recognition. Review the 23 basic indicators at the high school level and 17 indicators at the middle level to meet NCOE recognition—or go for the gold by meeting an additional 26 and 23 indicators, respectively, to earn the Gold Council of Excellence designation. Learn more and apply today at www.NatStuCo.org/NCOE.
