Each year, the national office receives and investigates formal complaints submitted against Honor Society chapters. We’ve noticed a trend of complaints involving minor policy violations that are easily rectified at the local level. We’d like to offer some guidance for you to help decrease formal complaints, which are time consuming for all parties, and to help parents and students understand your chapter’s operating procedures.

1) Reach out with questions to NASSP staff at [email protected] or [email protected].

2) Review your chapter’s bylaws and the national policies found in the NHS Constitution and NJHS Constitution. Bylaws and procedures must comply with the national policies.

3) Take action. Violations can often be quickly corrected without the parent needing to file a complaint or involve the national office. Principals should oversee these changes proactively at the local level with the Honor Society adviser.
