Volunteering as a teacher at numerous STEM camps for children in her community, she noticed a disheartening ratio of boy to girl participants that was further reflected on her robotics team. To encourage more girls to enter STEM, Ella started the Girls in STEM club at her school and published a children’s book, Yuna Soars With STEM. In another initiative, she converted toy cars into motorized wheelchairs for children with cerebral palsy and was inspired to continue her research in affordable assistive mobility devices by designing and building an exoskeleton that helps children with severe cerebral palsy walk.
